Several injured in crash near Savanna

SAVANNA, Ill. — The Savanna 911 Center and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department received reports of an accident on Illinois 84, near the Seven Eagle Campground, south of Savanna, on Friday.

According to a press release, it appeared that a southbound vehicle, driven by Gerald T. Hubble, 67, of Savanna, collided with a northbound vehicle pulling a trailer and boat. That vehicle was driven by Steven R. Broos, 58, of Gurnee, Ill.

The Hubble vehicle then collided with another northbound vehicle, driven by Daniel L. Atherton, 41, of Chillicothe, Ill., reports state.

Atherton was transported by Lifeline Helicopter to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Ill. He currently is listed in stable condition. The Atherton vehicle had three passengers who were all transported by local ambulances to Mercy Medical Center. Hubble was also transported to Mercy Medical Center. Broos refused treatment on scene.

Assisting at the scene were the Savanna Fire, Ambulance and Police Department, Thomson Fire, Ambulance and Police Department, Mount Carroll ambulance, Lifeline Helicopter and the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstructionist. The accident remains under investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police.
