Calamus man arrested for threats

CLINTON — The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Calamus man, charging him with allegedly making threats of poisoning the city of Calamus water supply and possessing illegal prescription drug possession.

Deputies last week responded to a report that Jeffrey A. Soboroff, of Calamus, had made a posting to his Web site that he had procured 500 pounds of Thorizine and was going to dump the drug into the city water tower to “calm the population down.” According to the affidavit, the Thorizine had been procured by “FREEWORLDKGB,” an organization Soboroff has admitted to be the head of in the past to deputies.

The affidavit states deputies visited the Web site and several postings and images were observed on a slide show link titled “TARGET FOR TONIGHT.” Soboroff allegedly told deputies last week that he had posted the images and phrases.

On Wednesday, Clinton County Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant on Soboroff’s residence and located a pill bottle in the basement. The bottle had no markings or label but contained 52 pills marked “Pliva.” Soboroff reportedly told deputies the pills were medications for his dog and were obtained from a veterinarian in Davenport. A deputy checked with a local pharmacy and was advised the medication is a generic form of Flexeril, a muscle relaxant only used by humans. The deputy also called the veterinarian and was told that Pliva had not been prescribed for Soboroff’s dog.

Deputies also state they located a glass pipe, commonly used for smoking illegal substances, on the basement floor. Soboroff was arrested for threats, a class D felony; unlawful possession of a prescription drug and possession of drug paraphernalia, both simple misdemeanors. Soboroff’s bond was set at $5,000. He has posted bond and was released, jail staff said this morning.
