Church proposes plan to donate land

CLINTON — Ten months after a Clinton church sustained heavy fire damage, a proposal made at the city’s Internal Operations Committee meeting could bring new life to the property.

John Mulholland, a member of Clinton Trees Forever and speaking on behalf of New Hope Lutheran Church, told the three-member committee that the church would like to donate a portion of land to the city to be turned into green space.

The parcel, estimated to be 40 feet by 90 feet, would be cleaned up and landscaped by Clinton Trees Forever, which would pursue a grant to cover the cost of the work. Benches also would be set up in the park, Mulholland said.

The land would not include playground equipment due to the amount of traffic on Fourth Street and the safety hazard it poses.

Clinton Trees Forever currently is drawing up a rendering of how the area would look if the work was completed.

The issue will be placed on an upcoming Clinton City Council agenda for consideration.
