The Clinton City Council on Tuesday night will take another step towards hiring Clinton’s next city administrator.
During its Committee of the Whole session, the council is scheduled to have a discussion to make an offer of employment, contingent on the negotiation of an acceptable employment contract for the city administrator position. The council could choose after a motion and vote to go into closed session to discuss the matter.
Under consideration are two candidates, current city Financial Director Jessica Kinser, who currently is serving as interim city administrator, and Joliet, Ill., assistant city manager Ben Benson.
Both underwent an extensive process in late May and were selected after a community and business-based committee narrowed the list of candidates.
Also on the agenda are discussions about a referral from the Rules and Regulations Committee concerning a proposed smoking ban in city parks and large vehicle permit fees.
An update about the Iowa Department of Transportation US 30 corridor funding will be given by Mayor Mark Vulich and the council will discuss the firefighter union’s contract that would run from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.
The council also will discuss a proposed fiscal year 2014 budget amendment and a classification and compensation study for city hall workers.
The Committee of the Whole meeting will follow the regular council meeting that begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Clinton City Hall.
