County struggles to fill admin building security post

CLINTON — The county is having difficulties in filling a new part-time security position at the county’s administration building.

The Clinton County Board of Supervisors and the sheriff’s office hoped to have security staff set up at the single entrance of the building by July 1. Sheriff Rick Lincoln reported that it has been a problematic process.

“We are still looking, but I’m afraid our pool of applicants has gotten to the point where we’re really struggling to find somebody to fill this position,” Lincoln said.

He has asked some of the part-time bailiffs providing security at the courthouse to work at the administration building on their days off. However, he pointed most of them are retired and do not want to work full time. He said they might have to hire someone on a full-time basis.

The board agreed security at the courthouse has been working well. Lincoln said the bailiffs have stopped and turned away some individuals carrying knives and other items. County Auditor Eric Van Lancker added they serve as very personable and friendly greeters as well.
