West Heights open house draws crowd

CLINTON — Clinton residents came out in droves to get a look at new apartments Tuesday afternoon.

Community Housing Initiatives, Inc., held a two-hour open house, beginning at 1 p.m. at the new West Heights Townhouse apartment complex,1155 14th Ave. Northwest. Within the first 30 minutes, more than 50 people visited the three- and four-bedroom apartments on display, according to CHI Director of Marketing and Communications Matt Miller.

Ann Rickerl and her mother, Mary Jane Rickerl, toured the apartments out of curiosity. Originally from Clinton, Ann said it was nice to see what the new complex has to offer.

“I think they’re nice,” Mary Jane said.

Apartments feature a kitchen area, living room, three or four bedrooms, a built-in washer and dryer and a great deal of storage space. Each of the apartments is handicap accessible with large bathrooms. The four-bedroom unit features two bathrooms and the three-bedroom apartment has one.

Artie Ketelsen especially liked the bathrooms and how roomy they are. She and her neighbor, Karen Goebel, toured the building. They agreed the apartments seem user friendly.

The complex includes 30 units at rents of between $545 and $600, not including gas and electric. It also features an exercise room and a community room.

Miller was happy with the number of people attending the open house. He added that Clinton residents recognize there is a need for affordable housing.

People interested in renting the units do have to meet income guidelines. West Heights Townhouse is currently taking applications, with people moving into the complex in early January.
