Iowa wins final tuneup before Big Ten

“I tried to do it,” Woodbury said with a laugh. “White doesn’t think so, but his opinion doesn’t matter.”

Pine Bluff outscored the Hawkeyes 46-34 in the second half. McCaffery even pulled his third team off the court in the final minute because of frustration with the sloppy play.

Pine Bluff is in the middle a brutal 15-game stretch of road and neutral-site games to open its season. The Golden Lions’ home opener is Jan. 18.

The travel hasn’t been easy, either. The Golden Lions didn’t arrive in Iowa City until 4 a.m. Sunday because of poor road conditions from Omaha, where they landed from Chicago.

A heavy snowstorm nearly doubled the 250-mile drive to 7 hours.

“We got a chance to bond a little bit more,” Pine Bluff coach George Ivory said.
