One dead in snowmobile accident

MILES — A Sunday morning snowmobile accident has left one dead.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has not released the name of the person killed in the accident at 2:06 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 64 and 484th Avenue, approximately one mile west of Miles. According to a press release, the investigation indicates the snowmobile was traveling west through a field when it crossed 484th Avenue. The driver then lost control of the snowmobile, striking a large pile of snow on the west side of the road.

The driver was ejected from the snowmobile, struck a large pole and was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The investigation is ongoing. Jackson County deputies were assisted at the scene by the Preston Police Department, Preston Fire, Preston Ambulance and the Jackson County Medical Examiner.
