Herald Staff Report
A car chase Friday crossed state lines into Illinois and led to felony charges for a Clinton man.
Deandre R. Anthony, of Clinton, was arrested and taken to Whiteside County Jail after being charged Friday with aggravated fleeing and eluding along with other traffic charges.
According to the Clinton Police Department, officers were in the area of the 500 block of 25th Avenue North at 10:45 a.m. Friday when a vehicle previously identified in an assault was located.
The car, which was occupied by three people, including Anthony who was allegedly driving, fled the area at a high rate of speed after noticing the patrol car.
The Fulton Police Department was advised at 10:50 a.m. that a white 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora was attempting to cross the Iowa 136 bridge into Fulton. The vehicle eventually crossed the bridge, and Fulton police attempted to deploy stop sticks. The vehicle swerved to avoid the sticks, and continued at a high speed.
According to Fulton police, the vehicle swerved in and out of traffic, and continued east on Illinois 136 before turning on U.S. 30.
The vehicle then experienced engine trouble and stalled at U.S. 30 and Tucker Road, according to the Clinton Police Department.
One suspect was taken into custody at the vehicle, while Anthony and the front-seat passenger allegedly attempted to flee on foot. These suspects were eventually apprehended by police.
No injuries were reported and no vehicles were damaged. Iowa charges against Anthony are pending.
