Cure cabin fever with event

The Clinton Herald

---- — THOMSON, Ill. — The Upper Mississippi River Refuge is hoping a geocaching event will cure cabin fever.

The Curing Cabin Fever IV Geocaching event will be held April 6 at Ingersoll Wetlands Learning Center, 7071 Riverview Road in Thomson. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A meet and greet will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, featuring lunch. An introduction to geocaching class will be held from noon to 1 p.m. that will feature types of geocaches, geocaching containers, finding a geocache, geocoins and travel bugs.

Participants will go out and find geocaches from 1 to 2 p.m.

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunt using a hand-held Global Positioning System receiver to find a treasure or cache. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and “treasure,” usually toys or trinkets of little monetary value.

This free event is geared toward beginners, but all levels are welcome. Call the Refuge office at (815) 273-2732, ext. 116 to register.

Participants can borrow a GPSr during the event.

Volunteers also are needed for the event. If interested, call the Refuge office.
