---- — CLINTON — Iowa American Water is nearing completion on two water main upgrade projects in Clinton totaling almost $600,000.
The company is replacing and upgrading about 1,700 feet of water main along South 19th Street north of 22nd Avenue South to Manufacturing Drive. On 33rd Avenue North, about 2,100 feet of 6-inch water main is being replaced and upgraded to 8-inch water main to replace aging pipeline and increase transmission capacity of the north end of the distribution system.
The upgrade work improves service reliability and increases water flow for firefighting in the neighborhoods. Both projects will be in service by month’s end.
Restoration work and transfer of service lines to the new water main will continue through October.
Earlier this year, Iowa American Water completed two additional water main replacement projects including the upgrade of a mile-and-a-half of water main along Camanche Avenue in conjunction with the city of Clinton and Iowa Department of Transportation. In addition, the company replaced about 3,650 feet of aged water main on Prospect and Wallace streets. The total cost of these projects was almost $1.5 million.
