Councilwoman tries to reduce rates

CLINTON — Clinton City Councilwoman Jennifer Graf once again attempted to reduce landfill rates to no avail.

Graf made a motion during Thursday’s Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency meeting to lower the per person allocation or payment to the CCASWA from $10 per person to $5 for each community represented on the board, effective at the beginning of the 2014 fiscal year.

A handout she presented after the meeting said this reduction would save Clinton taxpayers $134,275.

Her motion failed to receive a second. Graf asked that the subject remain on the agenda for next month’s meeting.

“I’ll just keep coming back until I’m unelected,” Graf said.

She has been preposing a reduction in fees for almost half a year. In August, she proposed Clinton pay the $44 per ton tipping fee like the rest of the communities for up to 5,000 tons.

After that, the fee for Clinton only would be dropped to $25 per ton. Representatives from other communities agreed the proposal was unfair and it was tabled at both the August and September meetings.
