Palisades art show winners announced

SAVANNA, Ill. — This year’s Palisades Art League Annual Fall Art Show & Sale at the West Carroll Primary School in Savanna presented 173 works of art and photos for public viewing.

Claudette Quarnstrom of Hanover, Ill., was the Best of Show winner in the Amateur Fine Arts division for her oil painting of “Le Dieppe 1663”. Best of Show winner in the Advanced division was Edward Knirlberger of Mount Carroll, Ill., for his wood carving of “Great Blue Heron”. Fine Arts judge was Debora Stewart of Clinton.

In the photography division, Judge Kevin Trettin of Clinton chose Kaitlin Rabuck of Savanna as Best of Show winner in the Amateur division for her photo “Weeping Angel”. Jennifer McColley of Savanna achieved the same rating in the advanced class for her photo entitled “God Bless You”.

The PAL Peer Award was won by Andrea Streets of Sabula for her oil painting titled “Serene”. Only the PAL members can vote for their favorite piece of art for the Peer Award, which is a special medal.

This year’s progressive painting, a work in acrylic called “Heaven’s Splendor”, created by seven members of the Palisades Art League, went to Vaughn Hazel as the special door prize.

A homemade pie from the Heartland Pet Welfare was given to Mary Falls of Thomson, Ill.

Roger Dorenden donated his first-place winning photo, “A Tribute to PAL” as another door prize.

In addition to the many pieces of art work and photography available for viewing, Jan Smith of Fulton, Ill., and Nancy Cartwright of Lanark, Ill., exhibited some of their special quilts. On display in the entrance hall was work by this year’s featured artist, the late Nora Woods of Fulton, Ill.
