The Clinton Herald
---- — PRESTON — The Preston Lions Club is the fastest growing Lions Club in the 9EC District and has received numerous congratulations for this achievement from multiple district representatives.
The club always is looking for new members who want to do more for their local and global communities. “We Serve” our community by performing service projects such a: transporting corneas for the Iowa Lions Eye Bank, purchasing and delivering toys to UI Hospitals & Clinics and Mercy Hospital in Clinton, providing KidSight vision screening to children from 6 months to 4 years old, recycling eye glasses and hearing aids, providing eyeglasses and hearing aids for those in need, roadside cleanup twice a year, spreading mulch at the parks, planting trees, painting gazebos, hosting Halloween and Easter parties, providing scholarships to high school seniors and helping children go to camp.
The club is able to provide these services with the willingness of each member to volunteer their time and their desire to help as much as they can. It donates to causes with the money raised from various fundraising events the club sponsors each year. Currently these funds come from a 50/50 raffle, an omelet breakfast, food stands at the Preston Firemen’s Celebration, TOMRV (bicycle tour), and Sabula Days, a prince/princess contest at the Fireman’s Celebration, and donations from individuals. To get involved, contact a Lions member on how to become a part of this organization.
Sponsors for the new members are Monica Bormann, Jody Yaddof and Tim Budde – Scott Bormann; Deb and Kevin Ritenour – Kurt Bormann; Tim Gradert – Leland Lane; Kathy and Mike Andersen – Stacy Beck.
