CLINTON — According to the Clinton County Emergency Management Agency, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Clinton County and surrounding Iowa counties beginning at noon today. This warning means that outdoor burning can be very dangerous and quickly get out of control. Residents are strongly discouraged from doing any outdoor burning today.
Red Flag conditions are expected mainly this afternoon and early this evening. Gusting winds and low relative humidity, combined with dry grasses and warm temperatures, will allow any fires that develop to spread rapidly.
The Red Flag Warning will remain in effect from noon to 7 p.m. for locations along and west of the Mississippi River. The Grass Fire Danger Index is categorized as very high to near extreme.
