CAMANCHE — One of three apartments in a complex at 318 N. Main St. in Maquoketa was destroyed by fire this morning.
Maquoketa Fire Chief Mark Beck said firefighters contained the fire to the upstairs apartment. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
No one was injured. There were some tenants at home at the time of the fire, but everyone got out without injury, Beck said. Firefighters were called about 11:10 a.m. and spent nearly two hours at the site.
The apartment complex has been owned by Gay and Dennis Storlie for 16 years.
When firefighters arrived, they said smoke was billowing out the front door of the two-storty apartment building. They quickly contained the fire to the upstairs apartment.
Beck estimated damage at between $50,000 and $60,000.
Andrew Fire Department was called to provide assistance.
The American Red Cross has been called in to assist the families.
