---- — Christmas DIY @ your library! As December opens the library will host DIY Christmas craft project classes. Please contact the library to register.
Join us on Monday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. to create some glittery do-it-yourself Christmas ornaments. The ornament craft class will be held at the main library and class size is limited to 12. There is no cost for materials.
Make some unique gift tags for your Christmas presents on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. at the Lyons branch. Colleen Hastings will share a variety of gift tag ideas with us. Materials fee is $13.
Story time. The theme for next week is IPTV for preschool story time on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. The theme for Toddler Time is cookies and will take place on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. If you have questions, please contact children’s staff at 243-5436.
Afternoon Adventures. Explore your world on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Open to children in grades first through fifth. The theme for Dec. 11 is “We Want Snow!” Enjoy fun and games about winter.
Mother/Daughter Book Club. Moms, ever wanted to be in a book group with your daughter? Now you can. The Library is starting a book group for children ages 7-12 and their moms. Our first book will be a book from the Mom’s childhood: “Pippi Longstocking” by Astrid Lindgren. Please sign up and get your book at the Children’s desk at the Main Branch. The club will meet at the Lyons Branch Library on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 6 p.m. to discuss the book and do fun activities.
Quad City Flutes Unlimited Quartet Holiday Concert. Visit the library for an evening of beautiful flute music on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. Songs include: Joy to the World; Go Tell it on the Mountain; Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella; Pat-a-Pan; Jingle Bells and other Christmas favorites. The concert features the talents of the Quad City Flutes Unlimited Quartet, which was founded in 1983 by Janet Stodd, a flute instructor at Augustana College and St. Ambrose University. This library program is free and open to the public. The concert will be held at the main branch and all ages are welcome.
Get Free Children’s Educational Apps. Do you have an iPad or are you planning on purchasing one this holiday season? Attend the library program on Monday, Dec. 16, to get free children’s educational apps. We will show you how to obtain the apps and then offer some tips for using the games with your children. Apps are for children aged 3-8 and provided by PBS Kids and Iowa Public Television. This is not an iPad instruction class. If you have questions about this program, call Children’s Librarian Tamie Bird at 242-8441.
