Ashford to lose nine positions

CLINTON — Bridgepoint Education is eliminating 117 positions nationwide, with a few reductions at Ashford University in Clinton.

University Director of Communications Larry Libberton said the Clinton campus and the Iowa online center will see a reduction of nine jobs. Bridgepoint Education said the reduction is "in an effort to better align the company's resources."

Via email, Libberton said seven of the positions were Bridgepoint employees and two were Ashford employees. Overall, he added, 42 combined positions between California, Colorado and Iowa locations on Jan. 30.

"This was a necessary reduction in workforce designed around a strong commitment to academic quality, student success, and operational efficiency," Libberton said through an official statement from the university.

Ashford, he said, is now in a better position to anticipate a "return of growing student enrollment" in 2014.
