---- — CLINTON — Northeast School District will appeal a September judgement that voided a whole-grade sharing agreement with the Easton Valley School District.
The Northeast Board of Education went into closed session during a special meeting this week to discuss litigation with its attorney. The board remained in closed session for more than 30 minutes. Later in the meeting, members approved a motion to authorize appealing the court decision.
In September, Judge Gary McKenrick denied the district’s request to uphold a three-year, whole-grade sharing agreement between East Central and Northeast, beginning in 2011. As part of the agreement, East Central provided transportation for its students to go to Northeast and paid Northeast 90 percent of the state aid it receives for the students to attend classes at Northeast, exceeding $500,000 per year.
McKenrick’s judgement stated the agreement was “not enforceable” against the newly formed Easton Valley.
