---- — CLINTON — A husband and wife admitted to stealing between $1,000 and $10,000 in jewelry.
Thomas W. Meier and Tiffany Meier each pleaded guilty to second-degree theft. A class D felony, this charge could carry as much as five years with the Iowa Department of Corrections and a fine of between $750 and $7,500.
According to court documents, Thomas took several rings between December 2012 and May 2013, from a resident located at 715 Seventh St., DeWitt. He then gave the rings to his wife, Tiffany, asking her to pawn them.
The affidavit continues that officers located four of the rings in the Quad-Cities and the victim identified them. Tiffany was identified as the person who pawned them and in an interview, she admitted to obtaining the rings from her husband, according to court documents. In a police interview, Thomas admitted to taking the rings out of the victim’s jewelry box during a six-month period.
Sentencing dates are set for both at 9 a.m. on Nov. 21.
