---- — CLINTON — The Clinton County Development Association granted an extension to support a renovation of the bandshell area.

Several months ago, the CCDA Board of Directors approved giving the city of Clinton up to $150,000 of the $200,000 remaining match funds earmarked for the Vision Iowa project. The deadline for this amount was previously set for the end of the year.

City Administrator Jessica Kinser told the board the council approved a bid of $235,000 on Oct. 8 for the project. However, City Engineer Jason Craft is working to reduce this cost to $204,000. One cost-saving method would be to remove the Dec. 31 deadline for construction.

This project is providing a face lift to the existing structure, adding two towers and fixing American with Disabilities Act issues. The renovation also will open up the space and create a larger bathroom.

Craft said a main portion of the project is replacing the existing wheelchair ramp. He said the current one is no longer safe.

"I wouldn't want to walk on it even," Craft said. "The wood is pretty rotten."

The CCDA extended the deadline to May 1. At Kinser's request, the board also agreed to give the city the full $200,000 for the project.
