DUBUQUE — Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and Epworth native Melanie Devaney has launched “Sing Pink” as part of the October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Through the end of the month, Devaney will be donating 100 percent of the sales of her song “Walk a Mile” to the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s National Mammography Project.
Devaney performs annually in the tri-state area. She wrote the song to celebrate women’s strength in the face of adversity. Devaney has set a goal to raise $5,000, or enough money to offer free mammograms to 50 women who do not yet have health insurance or cannot afford the preventive screening.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, there is a 98 percent survival rate when the disease is detected early.
The 99-cent download is available by visiting www.melaniedevaney.com/SingPink.
Devaney has created a YouTube video under the title “Melanie Devaney —Walk a Mile — National Mammography Project Video” comprised of images of her fans’ friends and family who have battled breast cancer.
