BELLEVUE — A woman was shot and stabbed Saturday night north of Bellevue and her husband then turned the gun on himself, according to authorities.

Jackson County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a shooting at 34600 High Bridge Road in northern Jackson County, north of Bellevue, at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday.

Deputies said a man shot his wife in the leg with a shotgun and she also was stabbed in the back with a knife at their residence.

Responding law enforcement found the man in an upstairs bedroom, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the "facial area."

Both were transported to Dubuque hospitals for treatment. The man was subsequently transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.

The names of the victim and suspect have not been released by authorities. The investigation is ongoing.
