Local legislators to address legislative issues at Ashford, Friday

Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce will host annual legislative preview breakfast Friday in Ashford University cafeteria

CLINTON — Clinton area legislators will answer questions about the upcoming legislative session Friday morning.

The Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual legislative preview breakfast at 7 a.m. Friday in the Ashford University cafeteria.

State legislators Sen. Rita Hart, D-Wheatland; Rep. Mary Wolfe, D-Clinton; and Rep. Steve Olson, R-DeWitt, will participate in the event, which is expected to last until 8:30 a.m.

"The purpose is to really educate chamber members as well as community members about legislative issues," Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Nathan Sondgeroth said. "We host it in January because it really sets the tone for the upcoming session."

Attendees will write specific questions on provided slips of paper. A moderator will ask state legislators to answer those questions.

Pre-registration is required for the event. Those interested in attending can contact Karen Friis at the Chamber at 242-5702.

The legislative session starts Monday, Jan. 13, and runs until April 22.

This year's session looks to be less eventful than last year's, when legislators tackled historic matters on property tax reform, health care reform and education reform.
