---- — DEWITT — Clinton County plans to save almost $15,000 on a generator project by purchasing last year’s model.
Building Maintenance Manager Corey Johnson asked the Clinton County Board of Supervisors if he should consider buying the older model generator from Caterpillar for $29,460, during a meeting Monday. He said a Peoria, Ill., store has two generators that were ordered last year, but never were purchased or used.
The company is offering one of them at a reduced rate.
“Kind of like day-old bread,” Supervisor Jill Davisson said. “It toasts just as well.”
This generator will be installed in the new county building in DeWitt and is funded through a grant. Johnson reported this bid is approximately $6,000 less than the grant amount, leaving funds to purchase a transfer switch.
The board will approve the purchase of the generator through a resolution during the July 29 meeting. Johnson said he would try to get some other bids on the generator to be safe.
