---- — STERLING, Ill. — A Utah man is dead after a single-vehicle crash Monday on Interstate 88 near Lyndon, Ill.
The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office responded to the roll-over crash at 1:05 p.m. at milemarker 29, rural Lyndon. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the driver, Colton C. Elliot, 23, of Bountiful, Utah, who stated he fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle.
One unbuckled passenger, Colton R. Ericksen, 19, of West Jordan, Utah, was ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene by Whiteside County Coroner Joe McDonald. Other passengers included:Samuel C. Giles, 18, of South Jordan, Utah, injured; Diego Mijares, 24, of Sandy, Utah, uninjured; Kyle G. Wilcox, 28, of San Diego, injured; Joseph W. Sandmire, 18, of South Jordan, Utah, injured; Irvin Martinez, 22, of Sandy, Utah, injured; and Rhett T. Hansen, 23, of Draper, Utah, injured.
All injured occupants, members or associates of the band Dark Seas, were transported to CGH in Sterling, Ill., for treatment. The driver was cited for improper driving on the shoulder and authorities indicate other charges are pending once results are received from the Illinois State Police Crime Lab.
