---- — GOOSE LAKE — Current and former school board members are running for the two open seats on the Northeast Board of Education.
With paperwork due at the beginning of August, two people have taken out petitions for the seats currently occupied by Andy Friedricksen and Mark Neblung.
“The last four years have been a real enjoyable experience,” Friedricksen said.
He will run for a second term on the board. As the only one on the board with children in the district, Friedricksen hopes he brings a unique perspective.
After serving for more than 20 years, Neblung will not run for the school board. He is in the process of moving out of the district.
Mary Smith had heard no one else was taking out paperwork, prompting her to file. As a former board member of 15 years, she wanted to make sure the district provides the “highest quality of education” for children.
“I felt it was too important of a position to leave up to write-in votes,” Smith said.
