FULTON, Ill. — Community members flooded the River Bend District Office on Monday to speak their minds and share their feelings on the school board’s decision to not reinstate Coach Jamie Farrell as the Fulton High School Boys Varsity Baseball coach.
“I have watched the program develop to where it is this year because of what Coach Farrell and Coach Coffey have done,” Fulton resident and baseball dad Dave Jones said.
It is unclear as to why the River Bend School Board has not reinstated Farrell to the head coach position, but it was clear the community does not agree with the board’s decision.
As the meeting progressed, more and more community members stood up to discuss their disagreement with the board and to ask why.
After a number of requests from Jones as to why the board did not reinstate Farrell, River Bend President Dan Portz said he would not allow further discussion.
However, as more community members stood up in support of Farrell, it became clear the issue would not go unheard.
“I think that when you brought Jamie Farrell in as head coach, it was the best decision you made. The kids love him and respect him... I think you should reconsider him,” Fulton resident and high school parent Stephanie Houzenga said.
Once all the public comments were made, Portz said the issue would not be acted upon Monday and if the board would decide to act, it would not be until next month’s meeting.
