CLINTON — A man charged with choking his daughter in April pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of simple assault.
Raymond C..J. Thomas was ordered to serve one day in Clinton County jail, with credit for one day served, in connection with an April 4 incident at 2700 N. Second St., apartment three. He was originally charged with domestic abuse assault with strangulation.
According to court documents, Clinton police officers were called to the residence at 10 p.m. for a report of “family trouble.” Thomas told officers that his adult daughter, who lives with him, was disrespecting her, so he stopped her by choking her around the neck with his hands until she stopped yelling, according to the affidavit.
Court documents continue that the victim told police she was in fear for her safety until the defendant let go. Thomas’ 5-year-old grandson was in the living room and watched him choke the boy’s mother, according to the affidavit.
