Two businesses to expand

CLINTON — Two businesses already in Clinton are moving west.

DHCU Community Credit Union will add a second location in Clinton on Valley West Drive and IWI Motor Parts will move out of its location on Sixth Avenue South and build a larger facility in the Valley West subdivision in Clinton.

Steve Howes, Howes and Jefferies president, sold the land to the two companies.

“I think this shows the confidence in the community, the willingness to expand and for companies to make an investment, which is something we all want,” Howes said.

DHCU opened its branch in Clinton in April 2012 at 1330 N. Second St. Public Relations Coordinator Melissa Brown said the company will expand its reach in Clinton with a second location at 2445 Valley West Drive.

The new building will be located on the corner of Valley West Drive, just west of the new Medical Associates building along Manufacturing Drive. The 1 1/2 acre lot sold for $167,000 on May 20.

For IWI Motor Parts, the building on Sixth Avenue South couldn’t hold its expanding business.

T.J. Faley, of IWI Motor Parts, said his business decided now was the time to expand.

“It’s been one of those things that’s been on the radar,” Faley said. “We just got done expanding in Dubuque over the last couple of years, and now we’re all done, so we’re able to focus on the next projects. It’s our commitment to the Clinton area to provide customers with parts and service that they need.”

The building on Sixth Avenue South is up for sale. IWI closed on the land purchase on May 30 for $98,800. The new 15,000-square-foot facility will be housed on a little more than an acre in between Maid-Rite and Oak Tree Inn.

The new location will provide the auto parts business with more efficiency, Faley said.

“The reality is that it will be more functional,” Faley said. “We’ll have loading docks and things we need to be more efficient. It’s also quick access to everywhere.”

IWI has 13 locations in a multi-state area and employs approximately 10 to 12 full-time equivalent positions. The business is currently progressing through the first stages of building the facility, Faley said.
