---- — CLINTON —The Riverfront Running Group has started a new session to train for the Clinton Half Marathon on Sept. 8.
Anyone interested in running is welcome to join the group, which is free to community members.
The group meets on Saturdays at 7 a.m. on the Clinton river front at the end of Fifth Avenue South. An experienced runner leads the group, and water will be available along the course.
The Riverfront Running Group is organized by Pam Petersen.
“Even if someone is not quite ready to train for a 13-mile run, we’d love to have them join us,” Petersen said. “Although we’ll be following a half marathon training program, runners are welcome to run the distance of their choosing.”
The Clinton Half Marathon will offer a half marathon distance (13.1 miles), 10K run (6.2 miles), and 5K walk/run (3.1 miles).
“Sometimes, just knowing there is a group of people waiting to run with you, helps motivate you to get your miles in,” said Petersen.
Mileage for each scheduled run will increase weekly. Those following the half marathon training schedule should be prepared to run 4 miles. Runs are scheduled according to group availability and the weather. Run dates and times are posted on the YWCA website at www.ywcaclinton.org. All runners must complete a registration form and waiver of liability prior to running with the group.
