Arrest made in Camanche meth lab case

Thursday's bust adds to more than 30 felony drug arrests since May in Camanche

CAMANCHE —

One woman is in custody after police raided and shut down a methamphetamine lab on Thursday in Camanche.
Erin Kim Draper, 32, 616 Fourth Ave,, Camanche, was arrested after Camanche police searched her residence and found several items consistent to the manufacturing of meth, according to a court affidavit.
Draper is currently being held at the Clinton County Jail for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine precursors and felony child endangerment on a $25,000 cash bond.
Thursday's bust adds to the more than 30 felony drug arrests the Camanche Police Department has made since May, a testament, according to Police Chief Bob Houzenga, to the department's continued dedication to keeping the community safe.
"I've been here for 33 years and the question becomes, is there a huge influx of drugs in recent years, or is the Camanche police department cracking down on drug arrests?," Houzenga said. "(Our) pursuit of it has increased a great deal and obviously we're having success."
Out of the more than 30 felony drug arrests, at least four have been directly related to the manufacture of methamphetamine and several that have involved children.
According to the court affidavit, police located Draper and her two juvenile children upon entering the residence around 9 p.m. Thursday, after reports of a suspicious chemical odor coming from the home.
After the initial report of the suspicious odor, Camanche police assembled a search team with the Department of Narcotics Enforcement, obtained the search warrant and designed a tactical plan to issue the search in less than four hours.
"These things can take a couple hours or much longer to develop," Houzenga said. "This one evolved pretty rapidly."
Thursday's search team included five full-time Camanche officers, two DNE officers and several Camanche reserve officers, a search team Houzenga said he could not have assembled a few years ago.
