Two arrested on crack cocaine charges

CLINTON — Two Clinton residents are facing charges of possession of crack cocaine.

Ericka H. Malone, 31, 1715 Pershing Blvd., and Willie Cherry, 38, 421 Fifth Ave. South, apartment 15, were arrested Saturday morning for possession of crack cocaine. Malone also is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to court documents, Clinton police officers were dispatched at 4:30 a.m. to 215 31st Ave. North, for a possible burglary in progress. The caller told police that the resident had not been home for several days, according to the police affidavit.

A police officer observed an open west-side window with a cut in the screen. While waiting for another officer to arrive, the officer observed Malone and a man, later identified as Cherry, in the kitchen, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit continues that the officer knows Malone to be an admitted user of crack cocaine and observed her picking up an unknown item and put it into a pipe in her hand. The officer observed Malone light the pipe and smoke the item three separate times within a few minutes.

When the officer observed an unknown woman approach the window, he opened the unlocked door and informed Malone she was under arrest, according to court documents. She claimed she was smoking synthetic marijuana, but the officer looked at the pipe and determine it is used for smoking crack, not marijuana, according to the affidavit. Small pieces of white rock, later testing positive as cocaine, were sitting by the pipe.

According to the affidavit, Malone admitted to smoking crack in the house. She added that Cherry brought the crack into the house several minutes prior to the officer’s arrival.

Cherry was released from the Clinton County Jail. Malone is currently held in the jail on a $1,000 bond.
