King has always wanted to know her first daughter, and Huizenga her older sister, but the options for finding her were either costly or out of reach. They've tried to look through records but they have all been sealed because it was a closed adoption.
“It always was in the back of my mind,” King said. “Every year I think she's a year older. When she would have graduated, I thought about that. Now I'm 56 and she's 36, I think, 'Wow, she's getting old like me.'”
By venturing to Facebook and other outlets, they're hoping to connect with the missing member of their family or someone who might know more about her. With Facebook and other social media, they can spread the word quickly for free. Within the first few days of posting the information about their daughter and sister, it had been shared more than 2,000 times. They have faith all the shares will lead to a reunion.
"I just hope she wants to know us," Huizenga said.
