An atmosphere of pride and excitement is building for new school district Easton Valley, as school officials gather input for a mascot and school colors.
Easton Valley School Board and community members last week discussed establishing school pride for the district composed of both Preston School District and East Central School District.
“Everyone has been asking about this, we really want to get some school pride going,” Board member Lance Abernathy said.
Board members expressed concern about using school colors from the two soon-to-be former districts. They recommended either using a color from each school to preserve the heritage or start fresh with completely new colors.
“We can be conscientious, but we want to create an atmosphere that gets students excited,” Board member Richard Keeney said.
“This is a time to make changes,” Superintendent Bob Lagerblade added.
Abernathy suggested staying away from person-themed mascots, like the Preston Trojans and East Central Raiders. The district plans to take suggestions from students, staff and community members from both districts through word of mouth and by forming a committee. They also plan to put an interactive poll at eastonvalleycsd.com. Ideas will be presented at the March 14 board meeting.
