Clinton Police Capt. Bill Greenwalt confirmed today that no foul play is expected involving an incident with a homeless man who set himself on fire Saturday.
Police responded at 6:45 p.m. to the Hy-Vee gas station, 809 S. Fourth St., to a report of a man with burns on his body.
Greenwalt confirmed that Eric Manning, 33, told officers he had fallen asleep with his feet near a camp fire under the south bridge. He woke up to find his clothing on fire and extinguished himself by rolling in snow.
Manning walked to the gas station, where he contacted the police. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center North and was later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
His condition is unknown.
