Morrison police investigate fraud

MORRISON, Ill. —

Morrison police are investigating numerous cases of credit and debit card fraud that have been recently reported.

At the time of this news release, police had received 27 reports from Morrison residents that their credit and debit cards had been compromised with numerous fraudulent and unauthorized transactions made all over the United States.

Many more cases of fraud have occurred but have not been reported to the police due to policies and procedures of some financial institutions and credit card companies.

Police are working with other local and federal law enforcement agencies as well as local businesses and financial institutions to investigate these crimes.

Chief Brian Melton advised the public to protect their identity and financial accounts against fraud by monitoring all accounts and credit reports. If any suspicious activity and/or transactions are discovered, please contact your local law enforcement as well as your financial institutions and credit card companies.

Due to the nature of these crimes and the ongoing investigation, additional information is not being released at this time.
