The Iowa Filmmakers were in Clinton on Thursday shooting a new video at Adcraft Printwear.
Adcraft has developed a new line of Iowa Hawkeyes' apparel, Hawkadelic, and the Filmmakers crew came through town to check it out.
Being known for their somewhat unorthodox approach to filmmaking, the Iowa Filmmakers were drawn to Adcraft because of their similar style.
"We like that they are progressive, not in a political way, but trying new things," Filmmaker Scott Siepker said.
Adcraft sales and marketing representative Colin Sullivan initially reached out to the filmmakers about 5 months ago to see if they would be interested in filming a commercial for the Hawkadelic line.
"I sent them an email on kind of a longshot and in a couple of weeks they got back to me and said they wanted to do it," Sullivan said.
After communicating with Sullivan, the Filmmakers waited until the weather was nice to come visit the Adcraft facility.
Siepker said the group wanted to work with Adcraft because they advocate Iowa-based business.
"We really wanted to showcase that they make things in Iowa. Get people to notice. They're like us, we know that product is good we just need to get it out there," Siepker said.
The same thing applied for Sullivan's reason for reaching out. He said two things weighed into his decision: being from Iowa and promoting Iowa production, and the Iowa Filmmakers' unique attitude toward filmmaking.
"I first saw their video when I was at the University of Iowa. Their attitude (in it) is kind of how we want to approach the Hawkadelic line," Sullivan said.
The Iowa Filmmakers are based out of Des Moines but like to travel throughout the state to meet other gifted filmmakers.
"It is really cool how many talented filmmakers are based in Iowa," creative director Paul David Benedict said.
"We try to be very collaborative with other people and Iowa Filmmakers is an umbrella term for everyone who comes out and helps."
