Clinton police have released more information about a body discovered Sunday near 36th Avenue North and McKinley Street.
While the name of the deceased person has not yet been released, police this afternoon said they do not believe it is Benjamin Roseland, who has been missing since Feb. 9, 2008. Tentative identification of the body has been made, but verification is pending.
The Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office reported an autopsy of the body was conducted this morning.
“An autopsy was performed at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner on the body discovered in a wooded area in Clinton near Eagle Point Park on April 28 by Dr. Michele Catellier," Chief Investigator Walker Hodges said through an emailed statement. "The cause and manner of death will not be released until positive identification has been established and notification of next-of-kin.”
The body was discovered shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday by a resident who was mushroom hunting in the area.
The case remains under investigation by the Clinton Police Department, Clinton County Medical Examiner's Office and the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office.
