McAleer hired as school district’s CFO

CLINTON — The Clinton School District has selected Cindy McAleer to serve as the chief financial officer for the district.

McAleer, 45, of rural Goose Lake, comes to Clinton after serving as the business manager and school board secretary at the Central Community School District for three years. Prior to that, McAleer held the same position with Northeast School District for 12 years.

McAleer will replace retiring Jan Culbertson, who has been the CFO and business manager with the Clinton School District since 2010.

McAleer previously replaced Culbertson following her departure from the Central School District in 2010.

“I obviously have big shoes to fill,” McAleer said.

She will start at the Clinton School District on March 11 and work with Culbertson until she retires on March 29. This will allow both to finish the budget process with their respective school districts.

McAleer said they will work together through the transitional period.

McAleer said she is looking forward to the challenge of working at a district that is more than two times larger than the Central Community School District and learning the processes used at Clinton.

Working within the budget restrictions caused by enrollment changes and the new middle school project are also on McAleer’s radar.

She’s hopeful for the future of Clinton and the impact new developments will have on the school district.

“I’m excited,” McAleer said. “There’s a lot of really exciting things going on in Clinton. With the prison opening hopefully that will have a direct effect on school enrollment.”

McAleer’s hire is expected to be approved by the Clinton School Board at its next meeting.
