Warning siren to be tested Thursday in Fulton

FULTON, Ill. — A test of Fulton's new severe weather siren will be 10 a.m. Thursday.

The siren recently was installed in Fulton to warn the community whenever severe weather threatens safety.

Fulton Police Chief James Rhoades informed the Fulton City Council about the siren test during the council's meeting Monday. He added the siren can be controlled not only at the fire station, but also at the police department and in squad cars.

“So if something would come up fast, a blow-up storm in the middle of the night and fire couldn't make it down to the fire department in time, the officers would have the ability to set it off,” Rhoades said.

Emergency personnel will go over procedures for the siren during Thursday's test. The system will be tested at 10:05 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.

Residents are reminded to seek shelter and monitor weather advisories on a radio, television or weather radio if they hear the siren during stormy conditions.
