CAST auditions for 2014 are Dec. 14

CLINTON — Clinton Area Showboat Theatre Producing Artistic Director Tommy Iafrate has announced local auditions for the 2014 Summer Season.

Auditions will be Saturday, Dec. 14, at Ashford University’s Mullany Theatre from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. There are roles available for performers of all ages, including roles for children. Those auditioning can show up anytime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

People interested in auditioning should prepare 32 bars of a song from the musical theater canon. An accompanist will be provided, but auditioners should bring sheet music for their song. Children in seventh grade or below may sing a song from “The Wizard of Oz” a cappella (without piano accompaniment). Applicants will not be required to dance, but may be asked to read from a script or learn a short musical selection from one of the shows. Those interested in auditioning for the intern program (teen summer intensive for those currently in eighth through 12th grade) may either sing or present a 30-second monologue. The Showboat’s 2014 Season will include: “The Taffetas,” “Annie Get Your Gun,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Wonderful Town” and “Alice in Wonderland.”

    Students of Eagle Heights Elementary School were evacuated Thursday afternoon after staff smelled something being emitted in the first-grade hallway and main office areas.

    According to a press release from the Clinton Community School District, staff noticed the smell at approximately 1:10 p.m. It was then determined the fire department should be notified, and the fire alarm was pulled. The building was evacuated quickly and the Clinton Fire Department responded immediately.

    A Clinton County jury today found Russell McColley, 39, not guilty of second-degree sexual abuse.

    McColley was accused of abusing a 3-year-old girl on July 29, 2013. If convicted of the class B felony, he could have faced as much as 25 years in prison.
