Maquoketa police arrest two for burglary

MAQUOKETA — Maquoketa police apprehended two local men after a foot chase from the scene of a burglary early Monday morning.

Damien A. Schulze, 19, and Bruce J. Bollinger, 18, both of Maquoketa, were both arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools.

A Maquoketa police officer responded to an alarm at Flap Jack County Restaurant at 101 McKinsey Drive in Maquoketa at 5:02 a.m. While checking the building, the officer found two male subjects on the north side of the building.

The two men fled, and the officer apprehended them after a short foot chase that ended near Banowetz Antiques at 122 McKinsey Drive. The suspects originally were arrested for public intoxication.

An investigation of the scene showed the restaurant had been entered through a downstairs window that had been broken, and a flat screen television in the dining area was partially removed from its bracket.

Schulze was held in the Jackson County Detention Center on $9,750 bond, and Bollinger was released on his own recognizance.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department assisted on the scene.
