CLINTON — A Calamus man has been issued new representation by a Clinton County judge, after a possible conflict of interest threatened the defendant, attorney relationship.
Attorney Joel Walker made a motion on Thursday to withdraw his representation of defendant Jeffrey Soboroff, who pleaded guilty on May 11, 2012, to second degree arson.
The motion to withdraw came after Walker disclosed that he formerly prosecuted Soboroff in a driving under suspension case in 2006.
Walker informed Soboroff of the potential conflict and asked him to sign an order allowing the withdraw or an acknowledgement stating that he had been duly informed of the conflict and waives any potential conflict.
As of Jan. 7, Walker had not received any notification from Soboroff and on Jan. 10 district judge Nancy Tabor granted the motion and issued new counsel to Soboroff.
Attorney Steve Drahozal will represent Soboroff in the upcoming arson trail, which has been continued to Jan. 22.
