More work to be done at Statehouse

---- — As the 110th day of the 85th General Assembly arrives, it is very obvious the tasks at hand will not be completed. We will be back in Des Moines on Monday to complete the unfinished business of the 2013 session.

It appears that all Appropriations Bills will be in conference committee at week’s end. I have been assigned to the Conference Committee to resolve the House and Senate property tax differences. We have met three different times this past week and at this time a resolution is not immediately in sight.

We continue to attempt to reach agreement on the Supreme Court ruling regarding the agriculture liability issue that seems to put many school field trips, farm visits, hunting and fishing trips in jeopardy.

As this is being written, it is snowing in Des Moines and not looking much like May 2.

Some areas of Iowa are dealing with up to 6 inches of snow, while parts of the state had temperatures in the 80s yesterday. Much like the Senate and the House, it appears Mother Nature cannot come to an agreement on whether to allow spring to arrive.

Always feel free to contact me on any issue before the Iowa Legislature. I can be reached at (515) 281-5429 during the week or by e-mail at or visit the web page for information at
