CLINTON — A training exercise Thursday for area law enforcement turned into the real thing.
Clinton County Communications received a call at 2:30 p.m. Thursday regarding two missing boys, ages 2 and 4, in the 4300 block of 180th Street in rural Clinton. During that time, Clinton County Emergency Management was conducting a wide area ground search training class at Eagle Point Park. The boys were eventually found at 4:11 p.m., approximately a half-mile north of the residence.
Deputies attending the class from Clinton and Jones counties responded immediately.
During the search, an incident command post was established at Eagle Point Lodge. Deputies walked through standing corn fields and heavily wooded areas during the search. The mother of the missing boys reported the children went outside to play and after checking a short time later, she was unable to find them.
The Clinton County Sheriff's office received help from the Clinton County Emergency Management, Andover and Clinton fire departments, Whiteside County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol, Emeregency Management Agency, Clinton County Communications, Emergency K-9 Operations and Jones County Conservation.
