Man charged in meth case

Police: Man admits to allowing others to 'cook' at residence

CLINTON — A Clinton man has been charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine.

Timothy W. Atkinson, 35, 1419 Honey Lane, was arrested Sunday after Clinton police executed a search warrant at his residence.

According to court records, officers found an empty cold pack, two digital scales, and an electric grinder used to grind pseudoephedrine pills. Officers also found a bottle used as an HCL generator that produces hydrogen chloride gas, which is used in the process of manufacturing meth.

In addition, court records indicated a quantity of suspected meth was found in Atkinson's sweatshirt pocket. The substance later tested positive as meth using a Nar-Tec test kit.

Court records state that during an interview, Atkinson admitted to allowing other subjects to manufacture meth at his residence in exchange for a 1/2 gram of meth each time someone "cooked" meth.

Atkinson stated he had given pseudoephedrine pills to another person for the purpose of making meth, and admitted to placing meth-related garbage in the dumpster at his place of employment in the Quad Cities.

The affidavit further stated that Atkinson admitted the grinder used to grind pseudoephedrine pills, and that the bottle suspected as an HCL generator was a "smoker bottle" that Atkinson attempted to clean out before putting it in the garbage.

A check of Atkinson's criminal history shows in 2003 he received a suspended 10-year prison sentence for a felony controlled substance violation.

Atkinson was released from the Clinton County Jail after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. April 29.
