CLINTON — Multiple community fire agencies were called to a blaze on the east stairwell at Super 8 at approximately 3:18 p.m. Friday.

After the fire alarms went off, a customer stepped up to aid at the scene.

Mike Anderson, of Texas, who was in staying in Clinton on business, helped put out the fire before the Clinton Fire Department arrived on the scene.

“I smelled the smoke and went over to the lobby to grab the fire extinguisher,” Anderson said. “I put out much of it.”

Clinton Fire and Ambulance arrived on the scene to contain the fire and minimize damage. The cause is undetermined and is likely to remain undetermined, according to the fire department.

No one was injured.
