CLINTON — Record high temperatures are typical in the months of July and August, but this year, September has challenged that top spot with its own set of records.
Temperatures on Thursday soared to 93 degrees, tying the previous record for Sept. 19, set in 1948. But, Thursday’s 93 degrees also tied another record for the month with the most 90 degree days in the month.
It has been more than 28 years since September saw four days above 90 degrees, something that happened more often in the 1920’s and ‘30s according to Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess.
“The last time we had four 90 degree days in September was in 1985,” Blaess said. “If you go way back to the 20s and 30s it happened more often but in recent years it’s been kind of rare.”
