Saber boys win own track meet

CLINTON — The Central DeWitt boys track and field team took team honors at their own meet on Monday with a 132.5 points. The Sabers won five events on their way to the title.

In the girls portion of the meet, Pleasant Valley took first place with 137 points while Clinton came in fourth, Central DeWitt was fifth, Camanche was sixth and Maquoketa was eighth.

The Central boys team won the shuttle hurdle relay (1:02.15) and the 4x200-meter relay (1:34.03) along with first place individual finishes in the 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles and the long jump.

Seth Garton won the 400 with a time of 52.31, Casey Kreiter won the 110 hurdles with a clocking of 15.38 and Ben Lubben took gold in the long jump with a leap of 20-11.

Maquoketa and Northeast were sixth and seventh respectively in the team standings with 42 and 32 points.

The Cardinals took a pair of relay wins in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays. The 4x100 was clocked at 45.13 and the 4x400 at 3:33.96.

The Rebels top finish was a runner-up in the distance medley relay.

The River Queens best place was a win in the long jump by Cortni Kooi with a leap of 16-5. Clinton got a pair of runner-up finishes from Larissa Wilden in the 100-meter dash (12.89) and Whitney Miller in the 400-hurdles (1:09.81).

The host Sabers got a pair of individual wins in the discus and 400-meter dash; while Camanche placed sixth as a team behind second place finishes by Sarah Powell in the discus (113-3) and McKinzie McDaniel in the 200-meter dash (27.53).

Maquoketa’s Trisha Miller provided the Cardinals with their lone win with a 10:50.33 clocking in the 3000-meter run.
